ETM: Monument Cap | 2019
Injection moulded housing for electronics
This project involved creating a plastic housing to fit on top of a well. Traditionally monument caps are steel but for this application the housing needed to be polymer in order to allow the instrumentation within to transmit Wi-Fi signals. Two methods of fixing where required; a steel pin and padlock as shown and M6 tamper proof screws.
In addition the top of the unit was sloped to aid rain water run off and also allow for the possibility of fitting a small photo-voltaic cell to trickle charge the electronics within. While the outside of the housing was textured and featured the client logo the inside needed to be highly polished at aid part ejection. The holes for the padlock pin or M6 fixings are drilled after de-moulding to allow late configuration.
